We're closing in on the end of volume 11...and the series as a whole.

  1. So is this the last volume?

    1. Actually, not. The Shogakukan Bunko edition doesn't cover the entire series. I'm not sure if Happy Scans has any intention in doing the rest of the series, but there's at least 4 volumes more.

  2. Thanks for the answer. I sure hope they will do the second part too.

    1. Actually, I checked again and the Bunkoban is 13 volumes long. So even this edition is not finished yet. Maybe he meant it's getting near the end? Not sure.

  3. Anyway, here's the remaining volumes (the ones not included in this edition). They're from Ishinomori Shotaro Complete Comic Works:

    2. For some reason I can't download them, mediafire won't load the captcha. I'll try again later.

Either way I'm going to have to go through these to make sure that they actually have new content that aren't in the bunkos before I make a decision. If there are... well, I'm gonna have to see. Sabu and Ichi was one of the hardest manga I've had to work on and I don't know if I want to go back to it.

    3. Okay, here's my analysis of these volumes:

The 13-volume bunkoban series contains the entire award-winning Sabu and Ichi series as published in Big Comic from 1968-1972. As for the volumes you provided...
      a) The first two volumes contain the child-oriented prototype series from Shonen Sunday. I'm not so interested in that one because to me Sabu and Ichi is great because of its maturity, particularly for its time. Besides, the Japanese is much simpler so just about any other translator ought to be able to handle it.

      b) All chapters in Volume 16 are included in the bunkos as well so there is no necessity for us to translate these.

      c) Volume 17 is a collection of four one-shots written in between 1983 and 1996. If I were to translate anything, it would be the one-shots from this volume. That said, some of them have slightly different formats and I'm not so sure when I will have the time and motivation to work through them. They may be ones that I translate intermittently after the conclusion of the series, perhaps strategically timed so that they come out right when everyone's pining for more. Either way I wouldn't include them as part of the series.
